This exquisite iris-leather accord is a contemporary tribute to the world of fragrances created by Chiris, an exceptional house and the very epitome of French perfumery – ‘l’excellence française’.
Chiris was founded in 1768 by Antoine Chiris and was one of the first manufacturers of fragrance ingredients and perfumes in France. From its home town of Grasse, the company expanded worldwide and, by the end of the 19th century, had become the largest producer of natural fragrance ingredients. The history of the so-called ‘Chiris dynasty’ bears witness to a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and dates back to the very beginnings of modern perfumery.
Iris pallida, which Chiris once cultivated alongside oak moss in Tuscany, was chosen as the ideal ingredient to honour this extraordinary history. Not only does it lend its name to the fragrance, but it is also one of the most valuable and sought-after raw materials in a perfumer’s palette. The noble, mysterious iris is an excellent fixative and is frequently used in powdery, floral compositions.
Here, however, the focus is on its deeper, woody facets: iris absolute blends with an oriental leather accord to create a multi-layered composition. A special accent is provided by the subtle combination of osmanthus and citrus notes, which unfolds a seductive, almost peach-like fruitiness. It lends the timeless iris theme an unmistakable, modern touch.
